## Overview

Gates are critical access points that regulate the movement of people and goods in and out of GATA’s [districts](https://wiki.codauniverse.com/coda-universe/world/gata/politics/districts). To pass through a Gate, travelers or shipments must possess [authorized keys](https://wiki.codauniverse.com/coda-universe/world/gata/politics/keys).

[Gate Patrol](https://wiki.codauniverse.com/coda-universe/world/gata/borders-and-travel/gate-patrol) and [Local Authority](https://wiki.codauniverse.com/coda-universe/world/gata/law-and-order/local-authority) personnel oversee the security, supported by advanced scanning and enforcement technologies. Additionally, [Angelis](https://wiki.codauniverse.com/coda-universe/world/gata/military-and-defense/angelis), GATA's premiere military [enterprise](https://wiki.codauniverse.com/coda-universe/world/gata/enterprise), monitors these facilities from orbit.

[Collections](https://wiki.codauniverse.com/coda-universe/world/gata/law-and-order/collections) agents are located on-site at Gates and Gateyards to scan and inspect people and cargo, ensuring compliance with the Greater Atlan Territorial Alliance’s (GATA) [paradigms](https://wiki.codauniverse.com/coda-universe/world/gata/politics/paradigms), as set by [the AIC](https://wiki.codauniverse.com/coda-universe/world/gata/institutions/atlan-information-control-aic).

Each district’s Gate system comprises two integral components: the Gate and the Gateyard.

***

## Gates

The Gate serves as the primary checkpoint for individual travelers and their belongings.

Individuals pass through a series of checkpoints, including **lockways**, to ensure citizenship, district travel or resident keys, and compliance with GATA paradigms.

The Collections desk supported by **Gate Patrol guards** inspect and monitor passage to uphold the peace, security protocols, and district-specific paradigms.

## Gateyards

Adjacent to the Gate, the Gateyard manages a more complex array of cargo and operational activities. It is segmented into two distinct sections:

1. Civilian Section: Processes personal luggage and facilitates the passage of civilian ships.
2. Enterprise Section:
   * Handles both general commercial goods and secure cargo such as high-priority shipments and Yield distributions.

Gateyards employ specialized scanners and lockways for meticulous cargo processing, ensuring adherence to GATA’s regulatory frameworks. These facilities operate semi-independently from the Gate, linked via the district's field wall.

## Gate Keys

Travel within and between GATA’s districts relies on System keys. Only individuals or shipments with the appropriate keys can pass into a district's interior.

Individuals may be denied access or detained by the authorities due to expired or revoked keys, legal exile, or System-level flags and warrants.

#### Gate-Related Keys

* **Import & Export Keys:** Associated with any shipments or luggage passing through a Gate.
* **Resident Keys:** Assigned to citizens for accessing their home district.
* **Transit Keys:** Granted for travel purposes, or temporary work, and broadly fall into one of two classes:
  * Escort-class: Requires a sponsor or chaperone.
  * Solo-class: Permits independent travel.
