Angelis
Overview
A special public-private enterprise sanctioned by GATA, headquartered in Atla, and staffed by more than 10 million personnel stationed around the world and in orbit.
Angelis' military might is formidable, with their ranks consisting of regular and special forces units, supported by a vast intelligence apparatus. Angelis is GATA’s largest enterprise, and provides military and intelligence services for GATA and its partner states.
Angelis was founded at the close of The Reconstruction era. Because of the particulars of GATA's formation, Atla's local authority had functioned as GATA's de facto national military, and it was felt by a vocal cohort in the Second Quorum that this was an unreasonable extension of the capitol's power across the rest of Greater Atla.
When the Existence Doctrine was phased out in the 2190's, GATA's leadership founded a public enterprise and restructured their military forces into various dedicated branches under the banner of Angelis, formalizing organizational structures, policies, and practices that had developed naturally over its history.
Watchers
Angelis strategy and intelligence operatives who monitor a wide array of targets, locations and systems from orbital stations called Watchtowers.
Watchers provide expert information gathering, border protection, personal protection, asset tracking, private communications, targeted downtime, and comprehensive strategic foresight. Having a Watcher on the line is an invaluable resource in a crisis, and watchers have proven to be one of Angelis' most in-demand services for private enterprise and GATA partner states.
Watchtowers
Orbital stations and surveillance platforms where orbital Angelis personnel work. Watchtower staff includes Angelis command, an expansive technical staff, and an army of Watchers who work closely with their ground-based counterparts to ensure the security of Greater Atla.
Watchtower staff provide direct monitoring of battlefields and Red Zones using a network of secure line-of-sight relays to tap into sensor arrays distributed around the Earth in geo-synchronous orbit. Watchtowers also provide intelligence support for districts with interior Gray Zones.
Overlooks
A constellation of numerous small orbital platforms with hangars and barracks where Angelis infantry, Guardians, Rapid Response and Mavericks are posted and dispatched from. Overlooks are positioned across the Earth’s orbit, and are strategically distributed to reduce deployment time to target.
In addition to combat units, overlooks are staffed with their own dedicated technical and support staff, and a team of elite watchers to support operations on the ground.
When infantry, Rapid Response or Maverick units are deployed on an operation, they typically are deployed from overlooks. While the transmedium static frames utilized by Guardians allow Guardians to launch from overlooks directly into the field, regular infantry units, Rapid Response and MAVs are either shuttled to their destination in static ships or drop into the field in Aegis drop pods.
Aegis Drop Pods
Armored drop pods that use Static Field technology to allow for accelerated descent and a decelerated hard-landing. The Aegis drop pod contains mission-relevant equipment, portable external compute, a break-away shield door, and various communication and jamming capabilities.
To open an Aegis pod, the shield door must be pushed out from the inside, causing the Aegis’ panels to fan open, allowing the occupant(s) to slowly increase their exposure to hostile targets while preserving some of the protection of the armored pod.
Aegis drop pods are used by Angelis infantry, support personnel, Rapid Response, and MAVs. Notably, Guardians in their frames do not require drop pods as their advanced frames are equipped with their own statics and life support, permitting them to independently traverse land, air, sea, and space.
Angelis Combat Gear
Angelis has the most advanced combat gear in the world. Angelis infantry uses more standard loadouts, but their elite operatives, like Rapid Response and MAVs, are trained to use highly advanced gear that are tailored to their talents and each mission’s requirements.
